Our Males

Why We Choose Outside Studs

At Elite Goldendoodles & Bernedoodles, every breeding decision is made with one goal in mind: producing the healthiest, happiest puppies possible for generations to come.

One of the ways we accomplish this is by carefully selecting outside stud dogs when they are the best match for one of our females. While we have outstanding males in our program, we are never limited to using only our own dogs. Instead, we choose the pairing that best benefits the puppies and the long-term health of our breeding program.

Protecting Genetic Diversity

Genetic diversity is one of the most important factors in responsible breeding. When breeding dogs are too closely related over multiple generations, the risk of inherited health conditions can increase, while overall genetic diversity decreases.

By incorporating exceptional outside studs from carefully selected breeding programs, we introduce new genetics that help strengthen future generations.

Maintaining a Low Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI)

A key tool we use when planning litters is the Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI).

The COI estimates how genetically related a puppy’s parents are. In general, a lower COI indicates greater genetic diversity, while a higher COI means there is more genetic similarity between the parents.

Maintaining a lower COI can help:

  • Promote greater genetic diversity
  • Reduce the likelihood of inherited genetic disorders
  • Support overall health and vitality
  • Preserve strong immune systems
  • Contribute to long-term breed improvement

Every breeding is carefully evaluated, and COI is just one of many factors we consider when selecting the ideal pairing.

Health Comes First

Using outside studs is never about convenience—it’s about making the very best decision for each litter.

Every sire we use, whether from our own program or another trusted breeder, is selected based on:

  • Comprehensive genetic health testing
  • Excellent temperament
  • Structural soundness
  • Pedigree evaluation
  • Overall compatibility with the female
  • The ability to improve future generations

Always Breeding With Purpose

Responsible breeding means continually striving to improve—not simply repeating the same pairings year after year.

Our commitment to health testing, thoughtful pedigree research, careful genetic planning, and maintaining genetic diversity allows us to produce puppies that have the best opportunity for long, healthy lives.

Because at Elite Goldendoodles & Bernedoodles, we’re not just breeding for today—we’re breeding for the future.
